I was at another international law
firm before I came here
I wanted more training in complicated transactions and the chance
to work on bigger, more international, projects. I heard from my
friends working at Freshfields that they enjoyed the quality of the
deals and working with international clients - so that persuaded
me.
There's always a lot to do and learn
I've worked mostly on initial public offerings (IPOs). I have been
involved in all the email correspondence and attended most of the
meetings. IPOs are all about teamwork, so it's a good opportunity
to learn from my colleagues and the other team members. I also do
compliance work for the listed companies in Hong Kong, and I'm
involved in mergers and acquisitions.
An excellent knowledge management
system helps
I was delighted to find that we have a comprehensive and
up-to-date knowledge management system where we can easily find the
latest precedents. This is especially helpful for IPOs. All
colleagues, juniors and seniors, are willing to share their
experience and provide advice and help when you approach them, no
matter how busy they are.
I've made a lot of new friends
Since arriving, I've had more client contact, and I've also had
the chance to make friends with both junior and senior people
simply by working on the same projects. I've made a lot of new
friends in the workplace - not only in the firm, but also with
clients and with people at other firms and in the investment
banks.
