Career development

We strive to meet our people’s expectations from the firm: we provide a first-class training programme to our lawyers and helping them to reach their full potential is a priority for the firm.

Professional training

We provide top-quality, comprehensive training in legal skills, including intensive courses to equip new lawyers for practical work, international courses on cross-border and cross-practice subjects and update sessions on new developments. The training is designed and delivered by our lawyers and by other leading practitioners, experts and academics. Most of our practice groups also have at least one residential conference a year (often overseas), involving colleagues from all over the world.

In-house training

We actively promote your professional training and the firm organises its own seminars and workshops in-house, particularly within practice groups.

The Italian Professional Rules require all registered Italian lawyers to undertake continuing professional development (CPD) by participating in accredited courses, authorised by the local Ordine degli Avvocati or the Consiglio Nazionale Forense. Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer offers accredited courses open to internal and external lawyers.

External training

We support participation in external seminars and training courses, either by paying for seminar or course fees or by granting trainees leave to prepare for the lawyer's exam in Italy.

Personal development

We run innovative international programmes that develop team, project and client management skills as well as the business understanding that our lawyers need to deliver the best possible service to our clients. The focus is on learning by doing - rather than being talked at - so you will spend most of the time collaborating with your international colleagues.
