About Freshfields Russia

Freshfields' arrival in Russia coincided with the opening up of the country to market economy. The Moscow office has experienced rapid but measured growth, with the firm earning itself a reputation as one of the most successful law firms in the city.

Our 70 or so lawyers are a mixture of Russian-law specialists and internationally qualified lawyers practising English, German, French and US law. We work as a team for our Russian and international clients and have been involved in some of the highest-profile Russian market projects in recent years.

Our practice involves a broad range of advisory and transactional work, including general corporate and commercial, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, banking and finance, restructuring and corporate recovery, infrastructure financings, capital market transactions, property projects and privatisations.

Our clients (and the transactions they are involved in) are Russian or cross-border.

We have particular expertise in the following sectors: energy and natural resources; metallurgy; food and drinks; retail; telecommunications; banking; automotive; aerospace and fast-moving consumer goods.

Our Moscow office works closely with other members of our CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) team based in Germany, France and the UK.

What makes us different from our competitors?

  • our success as illustrated by awards and ranking
  • our ability to implement ground-breaking transactions or create innovative products on the Russian market: eg the first Russian initial public offering (RBK in 2002), the most complex restructuring (Amtel Vredenstein in 2008), drafting the market documentation for derivative products (2008/2009), the first infrastructure projects under build-operate-transfer and concessions structures
  • our reputation for being a friendly place to work
