How can I sum up an exciting day at Freshfields? It's Friday late afternoon, I'm at the Moscow office and I get a call from London, asking me to go to a meeting. It's an urgent transaction that won't happen without Freshfields. I take the brief and get to work, and within three days I've helped to buy one of Russia's most important art collections.
How many lawyers would get that sort of opportunity? I was lucky to join Freshfields Moscow when it was a small office. I have been part of its amazing growth, with so many chances to develop my work and career in the way I want. At the moment, my main practice is litigation and I usually juggle several different cases at once. For example, I'm working on a case involving a major ammonia producer defending claims by the government, and a successful defence of consumer claims. I've also chosen to continue with some corporate and restructuring work so that I keep a good balance. What's unique about Freshfields is that it lets me explore and work in all these different areas.
Our clients are diverse; they're often challenging, and you'll need both patience and humour. But that's part of the fun of working here.
