We want to recruit people from all walks of life, all backgrounds and all nationalities. However, the international nature of our work means that you must speak and write English fluently.
Academic and technical excellence is a given. Beyond that we're on the look-out for those who interact and communicate easily with colleagues and clients. The right attitude and respect for others are very important. These are the qualities we look for and that make up our culture.
Whether you're a qualified lawyer or considering a career in commercial law, your ability to fit in, to be a team player and to hold it together under pressure are important qualities.
You may be just starting a career in law ...
If you're still at university when you apply, you will already have proved that you have what it takes intellectually. But what about your ability to deal with the reality of life within a big international law firm?
The hours are challenging, the work is difficult and clients and colleagues are demanding. All require a certain amount of mental and physical stamina.
So before you apply, ask yourself, 'Am I up to it?'
... Or you may be a qualified lawyer
If you're already qualified you will have proved that you have an appetite for challenging work, can demonstrate a detailed understanding of the law and can manage complex deals. If you can also demonstrate that you understand a particular market or industry, so much the better. Clients want specialist lawyers who understand their business. We do, too.
You don't have to be a lawyer
A 24/7 business also requires some exceptional support: IT, administration, finance and accounting, HR, marketing, business development. Over 2,000 people support the business in some way or another, so we're always interested in hearing from you if you think you have the skills we need.
How to shine in the interview
Be yourself. That's the best advice we can give you. There is huge kudos attached to joining an international law firm and the competition is fierce. So the temptation to 'be the person they're looking for' is great.
But see things from our point of view for a minute. We invest a great deal of time, effort and money in every employee, so we don't want to get it wrong. Our getting it wrong can also mean not coming up to your expectations and losing an excellent candidate to another firm. So it's best if neither of us puts on a show.
